With Winter Around The Corner, It’s Time to Properly Prepare Your Home Again

As snow starts falling and temperatures start dropping, it’s time to take seasonal precautions in your home. There is the usual danger of frozen pipes, and dysfunctional heating systems. Heed these tips to protect your home this cold season.

It may be a good idea to let a thin trickle of water run in the kitchen and bathroom sinks to keep water circulating, especially with weather gets below zero. Also just a reminder to turn off hose bibs, disconnect any hoses and insulate them properly until springtime. Those who use heat tape to prevent pipes from freezing should double-check that they are installed properly, as improperly installed heat tape can cause a fire. If a pipe does break in your home this winter, contact a licensed plumber immediately.

It is also very encouraged to hurry and call your local HVAC company, to have a trained and licensed HVAC employee inspect your home heating system. These professionals will check to make sure that heating systems are functional and that they’re working as efficiently as possible. And make any repairs or upgrades necessary before colder weather hits too.

If you have a chimney and plan to use it this winter to cut back on high utility bills, be sure you also contact a local chimney cleaner company, and have them come inspect your home’s chimney and make any upgrades and repairs as needed.
